Fintech firm BharatPe has appointed Himanshu Verma as Head of its point-of-sale (POS) business as it expands its offline payments business.

Verma, with more than two decades of expertise in channel sales, distribution, go-to-market strategies, UPI payments, POS/EDC acquisitions, and merchant acquisition, steps into the role to drive merchant adoption, strengthen distribution networks, and scale BharatPe's offline payments ecosystem. Reporting directly to CEO Nalin Negi, he will spearhead efforts to expand the company's merchant footprint, a critical lever as offline payments emerge as a growth segment in India's fintech sector.

#### VERMA'S PROVEN TRACK RECORD

Most recently at Pine Labs, he served as Senior Director and National Business Head for Soundbox (Mini), where he led the incubation, launch and nationwide scale-up of the Mini Soundbox business. He previously led UPI and retail POS acquisition.

He has also held senior positions at Freecharge, Indepay Networks, Bharti Airtel, Samsung India, Uninor and Vodafone.

#### CEO NEGI'S STRATEGIC VISION

Nalin Negi, BharatPe's CEO, said offline payments are becoming a critical lever of growth in India's digital payments ecosystem. "His deep experience in scaling large payment businesses and driving disciplined execution will be key as we continue to strengthen our POS portfolio and expand our merchant footprint. We believe his leadership will help us accelerate our next phase of growth in the offline payments space," Negi said.

BharatPe says it serves 1.7 crore merchants across 450 cities and processes about 450 million UPI transactions a month; its POS business handles about Rs 27,000 crore in annual transaction value across more than 1.25 lakh devices.

#### OFFLINE PAYMENTS EXPANSION

BharatPe rolled out an all-in-one payments device in 2024 supporting POS, QR code, tap-and-pay and card transactions, and also offers static QR codes and soundbox devices.

In offline payments acceptance it competes with PhonePe and Paytm, the dominant players.

#### BHARATPE'S STRATEGIC EVOLUTION

The company also offers lending and insurance alongside its core payment services.

His mandate is to drive merchant adoption and strengthen distribution.
