[Crédit Agricole Group](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/rankings/)'s net income Group share rose 28.2% to €2,780 million in the third quarter of 2026, driven by a 23.6% increase in gross operating income, the bank said in results published on Friday. Adjusted for a capital gain from the initial public offering of SBI FM and a prior-year write-off linked to buying Santander's non-controlling interest, net income Group share rose 23.0%.

Crédit Agricole S.A. reported net income Group share of 1.991 billion euros for the three months to September, up 17.9% on a year earlier, according to Ad-hoc-news. Its revenue rose 7.5% to 7.092 billion euros and gross operating income climbed 14.6% to 3.164 billion euros, Ad-hoc-news reported. The bank reported a return on tangible equity of 14.2%.

## INVESTMENT BANKING LEADS THE QUARTER

Revenues from corporate and investment banking rose 10.4% to €1,748 million. Capital markets and investment banking revenue reached €858 million, up 14.1%, with the investment banking business itself up 42.4% on structured equity and equity capital markets work, the bank said.

Credit costs rose too. The cost of credit risk was €1,014 million, up 16.7% on the third quarter of 2025, the bank said. Crédit Agricole S.A. recorded a net addition of 585 million euros to its cost of risk, 19.6% more than a year earlier, and its non-performing loan ratio stood at 2.5% at the end of September, with coverage of 67.0%, according to Ad-hoc-news.

## A MUTUAL GIANT IN A CONCENTRATED MARKET

[France](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/market-france/) has one of Europe's largest banking systems, with consolidated assets of €10.5tn in March 2026, about 3.6 times GDP, according to the TGB market profile. Six groups dominate it, including BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, BPCE and Société Générale, each directly supervised by the ECB.

Three of the six are mutual or cooperative groups whose member-owned regional banks also control listed or wholesale entities, such as Crédit Agricole S.A. Crédit Agricole Group's CET1 ratio stood at 17.3% and Crédit Agricole S.A.'s at 11.2%.

## HOME LOANS SLOW IN FRANCE, GERMANY PUSH GATHERS PACE

In France, home loan production slowed by 4% from the third quarter of 2025 against a backdrop of rising interest rates, the bank said. Lending in Italy grew 17%, led by corporate loans, up 26%, and home loans, up 9%. At CAPFM, the automotive market remained highly unfavourable, weighing on used-car resale, and short-term car rental was down significantly.

The group launched Crédit Agricole Deutschland in October, a universal bank for individual customers in Germany that builds on an existing base of around 1 million customers, and has proposed buying IKB, a lender to German Mittelstand businesses. "We are accelerating our expansion in Europe through the establishment of CA Deutschland and the planned acquisition of IKB, a key player in financing the German Mittelstand," said Olivier Gavalda, chief executive of Crédit Agricole S.A.

It also created Crédit Agricole Capital Naturel, a business line for the preservation and regeneration of natural capital, and is acquiring a majority stake in EcoTree, a French sustainable forest manager present in five European countries. Over the first nine months of 2026, net income Group share rose 13.7% to €7,654 million, and over the same period the cost/income ratio stood at 57.7%, an improvement of 3.5 percentage points.

## THE TGB VIEW

Crédit Agricole Group ranks ninth in the world and third in Europe in the TGB Bank Rankings, with US$3,151.3bn of assets, close to BNP Paribas at US$3,281.8bn. The gap that matters is returns: its 2025 return on equity of 5.9% trailed BNP Paribas at 9.7% and Société Générale at 8.6%, so profitability, not size, is the measure to watch. This quarter's 28.2% profit rise came as French home-loan production slowed by 4% and the cost of credit risk rose 16.7%.
