[DBS Group](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/rankings/) has named Anthony Lim, an independent director, as its next chairman. He will succeed Peter Seah with effect from 1 January 2027, the bank said on Thursday, ending Seah's 16 years in the role.

Seah will retire on 31 December and be appointed senior adviser for a year, DBS said in a media release. DBS also reported third-quarter results on Thursday, in which net profit fell 5% from a year earlier to S$2.81 billion while nine-month profit rose 2% to a record S$8.82 billion.

## AN INSIDER FOR THE CHAIR

Lim has served on the boards of DBS Group Holdings and DBS Bank since April 2020\. Over the past six years he has sat on the Board Executive Committee, the Board Risk Management Committee and the Compensation and Management Development Committee, which DBS said had given him a deep understanding of the bank's culture and strategy.

Lim spent nearly two decades with GIC before retiring in 2017, in senior roles including president of the London office and New York-based president of the Americas. Before that he was a senior managing director at Bankers Trust Company for more than a decade, after three years at the Monetary Authority of [Singapore](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/market-singapore/)'s New York office. DBS described him as a financial markets veteran when it announced he would join its boards on 1 April 2020.

## SEAH'S TENURE

Seah joined the boards of DBS Group Holdings and DBS Bank on 16 November 2009 and became chairman on 1 May 2010\. He worked at Citibank, where he became country head in Brunei, and in 1977 moved to Overseas Union Bank, becoming chief executive and vice-chairman by 1991\. He became chairman of Singapore Airlines in 2017.

"As Chairman since 2010, Seah provided steadfast leadership and strategic oversight as DBS pursued a strategy of digital transformation and growth in high-return businesses," the bank said. Since 2010, DBS said, its income has more than tripled and net profit has increased more than fourfold.

DBS said its market capitalisation crossed S$200 billion in July 2026, making it Singapore's largest listed company by a significant margin, and was approximately six times its size at the end of 2009, the bank added.

## THE TGB VIEW

Lim takes over a bank that ranks 25th in Asia-Pacific in the TGB Bank Rankings, with US$698.9bn of total assets and a 15.9% return on equity in 2025, and which reported a return on equity of 17.0% with its nine-month results. DBS chose a current board member, one who has served on its boards since April 2020 and on its executive, risk and compensation committees. He takes over on 1 January 2027 from a chairman under whom, DBS said, income more than tripled and net profit increased more than fourfold since 2010.
