Euronext's supervisory board, chaired by Piero Novelli, intends to nominate David Knibbe as chief executive and chairman of the managing board of Euronext N.V., the company announced, following a recommendation by its nomination committee. Knibbe will join from NN Group N.V., where he has been chief executive since 2019.

The nomination follows Stéphane Boujnah's decision to step down in May 2027 after leading Euronext since 2015, and a selection process in which the supervisory board considered several candidates. Knibbe will be based in Paris.

## APPROVALS AND TIMETABLE

The appointment is subject to approval by the relevant national competent authorities and the Dutch Minister of Finance. It will also be submitted for approval by Euronext's shareholders at the annual general meeting on 20 May 2027.

Novelli said Knibbe, as the long-serving chief executive of NN Group, which is itself listed on Euronext, brings a consistent track record of value creation in another highly regulated industry. "His experience in successful integrations and technology transformation will be highly valuable as Euronext continues to execute its strategy and invests in future growth," he said.

## A CAREER BUILT AT ING AND NN

Knibbe became chief executive and chair of NN Group's executive board and management board on 1 October 2019, according to his NN Group biography. Before that he was CEO [Netherlands](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/market-netherlands/) from 2014, responsible for all insurance and banking business in the Netherlands, and led the integration of Nationale-Nederlanden and Delta Lloyd as well as the acquisition of VIVAT Non-life.

His experience in financial services dates from 1997, when he was on the global management programme at [ING](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/rankings/) Group. He was head of investments for Central-Holland at ING Bank in 2000, managing director of the ING Piraeus joint venture in Greece in 2002 and chief executive of ING Insurance Europe in 2011.

Knibbe holds a master's degree in monetary economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, completed a general management programme at Harvard Business School and has served as vice-chair of the Pan-European Insurance Forum.

## A MANDATE TO CONNECT MARKETS

Euronext said Knibbe's record in leading a highly regulated business, delivering operational transformations and creating shareholder value positions him to scale the group through its next phase of strategic growth and further advance the integration of European capital markets. Novelli said Knibbe would build on the growth and transformation delivered under Boujnah over the past decade, and would work to further connect European capital markets and advance the European Savings and Investments Union.

## THE TGB VIEW

Euronext is choosing a chief executive whose record lies in banking and insurance: Knibbe started at ING, one of the three groups that dominate Dutch banking according to the TGB market profile, where the five largest credit institutions held 81.3% of sector assets in 2025\. The integration experience Euronext's chairman cited shows in his record, which includes leading the integration of Nationale-Nederlanden and Delta Lloyd. Approval is still needed from national regulators and the Dutch Minister of Finance, and shareholders vote on 20 May 2027, the month Boujnah steps down.
