KakaoBank reported net profit of 141.7 billion won for the third quarter, up 27.2% from a year earlier, according to the internet-only bank's earnings report on Wednesday, and attributed the gain to balanced growth in interest and non-interest income. The figure beat the 129.5 billion won market consensus compiled by FnGuide, the [Korea](https://www.theglobalbanker.com/market-south-korea/) JoongAng Daily reported.

Cumulative net profit for the first nine months rose 25.2% to 469.8 billion won, the highest on record for the period, the bank said. Third-quarter revenue rose 15.2% from a year earlier to 880.9 billion won, according to its regulatory filing.

## DEPOSITS PASS 70 TRILLION WON

Deposits stood at 71.8 trillion won at the end of September, up 4.7 trillion won in three months and above 70 trillion won for the first time. Both demand and savings deposits increased, while household deposits at domestic banks fell over the July-to-September period.

The customer base reached 27.94 million at the end of September, 1.7 million more than a year earlier, and monthly active users totalled 20.57 million in the quarter.

## BANKING GROUPS DOMINATE

Five groups, KB, Shinhan, Hana, Woori and NH NongHyup, own the largest commercial banks, and the country's ten financial holding companies had consolidated assets of 4,391.0 trillion won at end-June 2026, 71.3% of it in banking, according to the TGB market profile, citing the FSS.

With the government managing household lending, KakaoBank has expanded credit mainly to individual business owners. Outstanding loans totalled 48.6 trillion won, and loans to sole proprietors made up 58% of this year's net loan growth, lifting that balance by 349 billion won in the quarter to 4.04 trillion won. The bank said it supplied about 1.5 trillion won to mid- and low-credit borrowers through the third quarter, including 510 billion won in the quarter itself.

Non-interest income rose 6.4% to 888.3 billion won in the first nine months, 35% of total revenue, and fee and platform income gained 10.9% to 256.3 billion won on growth in its loan comparison, investment and payment services. The third-quarter delinquency rate was 0.49%, down 0.02 percentage points from the previous quarter, the bank said.

## THE TGB VIEW

KakaoBank aims for 100 trillion won of assets by 2027 and a 15% return on equity by 2030\. The 100 trillion won asset goal compares with 4,391.0 trillion won held by the country's ten financial holding companies at end-June, according to the FSS, and a KakaoBank official said the bank aims to reach 30 million customers by next year.
