Vietnam's Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB), a member of Vietnam's 'Big 5' banking group, has set growth targets for 2026-2028 in its newly released 2025 annual report. The bank aims for 30-35% annual expansions in both credit and deposits, alongside pre-tax profit growth of about 15% in 2026\. At the end of 2025, total assets had passed VND1,600 trillion ($60.75 billion), up 43% from the beginning of the year.

MB's outstanding loans also crossed the VND1,000 trillion ($37.97 billion) threshold by the end of 2025, up 37%. MB kept its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio below 1.3% in 2025 and targets below 1% in 2026 and under 1.5% over 2026-2028\. The bank's strategy includes onboarding 5 million new customers to hit a 40 million total, while keeping return on equity (ROE) above 20%.

#### AMBITIOUS 2026-2028 ROADMAP

In the annual report, Thai wrote that a GDP growth target of above 10% and per capita income exceeding $5,000 would accelerate the accumulation of financial assets and create room for banking to expand. "Our strategy is to pursue fast but sustainable growth, expanding scale on the foundation of strict risk management and real-time data," chairman Luu Trung Thai said in the bank's 2025 annual report, adding that the bank would focus on improving capital efficiency, enhancing customer lifetime value and maintaining its leadership in digital transformation.

Deposits are targeted to grow at the same 30-35% annual pace. MB's current account and savings account (CASA) ratio has hovered around 36%, among the highest in the system, which the bank says lowers its cost of capital.

#### 2025 MILESTONES AS FOUNDATION

The 43% asset growth in 2025 was among the fastest in Vietnam's banking system. Pre-tax profits also rose, with 2025 actual pre-tax profit reaching VND34,268 billion ($1.3 billion), an 18.9% increase against 2024\. The 2026 target implies growth of about 15% on that figure.

Customer acquisition is central: MB plans to add approximately 5 million new customers in 2026, bringing its total customer base to 40 million. The bank operates two major digital platforms: BIZ MBBank, serving more than 358,000 businesses, and the MBBank App, serving the largest number of users in Vietnam with 35 million people.

For 2026, the bank will focus on three pillars: becoming Vietnam's leading digital enterprise, building a low-cost and sustainable funding base, and ensuring efficiency and safety. MB is also reviewing its 2022-2026 strategy and preparing a new development plan for the next phase.

#### STRATEGIC MOVES AHEAD

To keep ROE above 20%, MB plans to improve capital efficiency and enhance customer lifetime value. The bank is also stepping up technology adoption to enhance customer experience and boost group-wide productivity by 20% in 2026\. MB plans to maintain key indicators, including net interest margin (NIM), cost of funds (COF), return on assets (ROA), and cost-to-income ratio (CIR), among the top tier of the banking sector.

MB has set its 2026 operating motto as "Accelerated – Solid – Efficient", focusing on technology-driven growth, prudent governance and efficiency.
