ICICI Bank reported standalone net profit of ₹14,805 crore for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, up 16% from the same period a year earlier, the lender said in its filings with the stock exchanges on Saturday. Consolidated profit after tax rose 14% year on year to ₹15,440 crore, extending a run of double-digit earnings expansion at India's second-largest private-sector bank and confirming that the group has entered the new financial year with earnings momentum broadly intact.
Net interest income, the difference between the interest earned on loans and paid on deposits, increased 12.3% from a year earlier to ₹29,177 crore. Net interest margin was reported at 4.36% for the quarter, keeping ICICI Bank at the top end of the industry range and well ahead of most of its listed peers, both in the private and public-sector banking segments.
MARGINS OUTPACE LARGER RIVALS
The margin performance stands out against a backdrop of slowly normalising system-wide funding costs and continued price competition on both sides of the balance sheet. At 4.36%, ICICI Bank's net interest margin remains among the widest of any large Indian bank and continues to be a defining feature of the earnings model. It has enabled the bank to sustain double-digit growth in net interest income even in an environment where average pricing on new loans has been under downward pressure.
The strength in net interest income has been the principal engine of profit growth in recent quarters, and the Q1 numbers suggest the bank has continued to benefit from a favourable mix of granular retail lending and a stable current and savings account base. Retail exposures, in particular, have provided both volume growth and pricing power, while the corporate book has expanded selectively into higher-rated names.
The 12.3% expansion in net interest income at a time when several peers have reported single-digit growth in the same metric underscores how much of a differentiator the bank's funding and asset mix has become. Fee income and treasury contributions, while not detailed in the initial disclosure, are expected to be discussed in the accompanying earnings call and management commentary.
ASSET QUALITY IMPROVES FURTHER
Management noted that asset quality improved during the quarter, continuing the trend of declining slippages and lower provisioning that has characterised the bank's post-pandemic recovery. ICICI Bank did not flag any material pockets of stress in its statement, an indication that the more granular retail portfolios, which had drawn some attention across the sector in previous quarters, are performing broadly as expected.
The improvement in asset quality reinforces the bottom-line story, because lower incremental provisions translate more directly into net profit at a bank that has already worked through much of its legacy stressed-asset stock in earlier years. The combination of a wide margin, growing loan book and benign credit costs is the classic recipe for the double-digit earnings growth reported.
The results reinforce ICICI Bank's positioning as one of the most profitable large lenders in the Indian banking system. The full quarterly disclosures, including the balance sheet, capital ratios and segment reporting, were released on the investor relations pages of the bank's website alongside a presentation for analysts. Detailed commentary on business drivers will be provided in the customary post-earnings interaction with the sell-side.
