Ant Group announced on 8 December 2024 that Cyril Han, the company's president and chief financial officer, will assume the role of chief executive officer from 1 March 2025.
Eric Jing, who has led Ant Group as chairman and, since 2021, also as CEO, a period that included the abandoned 2020 initial public offering and the overhaul subsequently demanded by Chinese authorities, will remain with the company as chairman.
SUCCESSION FOLLOWS REGULATORY RESTRUCTURING
Ant Group's regulatory overhaul saw the company reconfigure its corporate structure and governance arrangements to satisfy requirements from Chinese financial authorities. That process culminated in July 2023 with a $984 million fine levied by Chinese regulators for governance breaches.
Han served as chief financial officer during the restructuring period.
BUSINESS AND OVERSIGHT
Ant Group's core business revolves around the Alipay platform, which provides payment services, wealth management products, micro-lending, and insurance distribution to hundreds of millions of users across China. Under the regulatory framework that emerged from the 2023 restructuring, many of these activities are now subject to closer oversight from the People's Bank of China and other financial regulators.
Han will take the chief executive role on 1 March 2025.
