Ant International announced on 13 January 2026 that it had supported more than 2 billion digital cross-border transactions in 2025, serving merchants across its core emerging markets in Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. The Singapore-headquartered international arm of the Ant Group ecosystem presented the figures as evidence of its growing centrality to the infrastructure of global digital commerce, positioning the company as a systemic participant in cross-border financial flows rather than a regional niche player.

Alipay+, the company's cross-border mobile payment network, now connects more than 1.8 billion user accounts across 40 international payment partners to merchants operating in over 100 markets worldwide. Ant International characterises Alipay+ as the world's largest cross-border mobile payment public-private partnership, a designation that reflects the breadth of institutional, governmental, and private sector partners contributing to the network relative to other international payment systems operating at global scale.

BLOCKCHAIN RAILS PROCESS USD 600 BILLION

Ant International's Platform Tech unit processed over USD 600 billion in cross-border transfers via its blockchain infrastructure during 2025, operating around the clock with more than 95 per cent of transfers completing on the same day they were initiated. The volume and speed metrics represent a substantial operational achievement in a segment of financial services where correspondent banking intermediaries, time zone differences, and batch processing have historically introduced delays of one to several business days for cross-border money movements.

The 95-plus per cent same-day completion rate is commercially significant because rapid settlement directly improves working capital management for the 150 million merchants globally that Ant International services. Smaller merchants in emerging markets in particular are sensitive to settlement timing, as delayed receipt of funds can constrain their ability to restock inventory, meet payroll obligations, or service short-term financing arrangements. The 24-hour availability of Ant International's blockchain transfer infrastructure removes the timing constraints that have limited the utility of traditional wire transfer systems for businesses operating across time zones.

The combination of the Alipay+ consumer-facing network and the Platform Tech institutional transfer infrastructure gives Ant International a two-sided position in cross-border financial flows, capturing both retail payment origination and the underlying settlement and treasury layer that moves value between markets. Very few payments organisations outside the largest global card networks and messaging infrastructures can claim equivalent operational depth across both layers simultaneously.

EMERGING MARKETS STRATEGY DRIVES EXPANSION

The geographic concentration on Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America reflects a deliberate strategy to prioritise markets where digital payment penetration is growing rapidly but where established western card and bank payment infrastructure has historically been less deeply embedded. In these regions, mobile-first consumers and merchants have demonstrated a strong willingness to adopt new payment methods that offer lower friction, faster settlement, and lower cost than legacy alternatives, creating fertile conditions for the Alipay+ network's expansion.

The 40 payment partners connected to Alipay+ span a range of domestic digital wallets, bank-linked payment applications, and fintech platforms across the network's operating markets. This federated partnership model allows the network to scale into new countries by integrating with locally trusted payment providers rather than building direct consumer relationships from scratch in each market, reducing both the capital requirement and the regulatory complexity of geographic expansion significantly.

Ant International's 2025 performance metrics will be examined closely by investors, regulators, and competitors as a reference point for how large-scale cross-border payment networks perform when sustained infrastructure investment and strategic partnerships are combined at sufficient scale. The company has signalled its intention to continue expanding both its merchant base and its payment partner network in the year ahead.
