Banco Bradesco, one of Brazil's largest private-sector banks, has recruited Francesco Di Marcello, a former partner at McKinsey, as executive director of information technology, according to reports on 19 August 2024. He is tasked with leading initiatives aimed at the technological modernisation of the bank.

Di Marcello reports directly to Rogério Câmara, Bradesco's vice-president of technology and operations, who highlighted his international experience in digital transformation. He works alongside chief technology officer Cíntia Barcellos and chief information officer Edilson Reis.

CONSULTING BACKGROUND

Di Marcello spent 14 years at McKinsey, where, according to Câmara, he took part in the digital transformation of companies in Brazil and abroad. Before joining the consultancy, he worked at Optima Group and Accenture. An Italian national, he is based in Brazil.

TECHNOLOGY OVERHAUL

The hire was reported as the first executive-level change in Bradesco's technology leadership under the restructuring led by chief executive Marcelo Noronha, who took over at the end of 2023. The appointment is one of several management changes Noronha has made since becoming chief executive. He has split the bank's operations into two areas, one running the existing business and another dedicated to transformation. Di Marcello joins the transformation area.

As part of the plan, the bank's technology area intends to hire 4,000 additional professionals over two years, with the aim of reducing its dependence on outsourcing and making delivery to the business more agile, according to Câmara.
