BBVA's board approved a gross interim dividend of EUR0.37 per share against 2026 earnings. The Spanish bank will make the cash payment on 15 October. BBVA said the amount is its highest interim dividend and nearly 16% above the comparable 2025 payment.
The bank expects to distribute approximately EUR2.0 billion, although the final amount will depend on the number of eligible shares outstanding. The decision follows record attributable profit of EUR6.051 billion in the first half of 2026. Reuters independently reported the board's approval and the 16% annual increase.
CAPITAL GENERATION SUPPORTS THE PAYOUT
BBVA reported a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 12.90% at the end of June. Including its EUR2.0 billion share-buyback programme, the bank put the pro forma ratio at 12.41%. That remained above the 12% capital target used in its shareholder-distribution framework.
The lender said dividends and completed or announced buybacks since 2025 amount to almost EUR14.2 billion when the new interim payment is included. That total includes EUR5.2 billion of dividends against 2025 earnings and two completed buybacks. A further EUR2.0 billion extraordinary buyback is under way.
PAYMENT DATE BECOMES THE NEXT MILESTONE
The dividend is an approved capital distribution rather than a proposal awaiting a shareholder vote. It adds to a run of annual increases in BBVA's cash dividend per share since 2021. The record amount follows the bank's reported first-half growth and organic capital generation.
The next concrete milestone is the scheduled cash payment on 15 October. BBVA cautioned that the aggregate amount could change with the number of shares outstanding at the close of the final eligible trading day.
