BNP Paribas entered a five-year partnership with Google Cloud to expand its cloud infrastructure and deploy Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise. Initial work will focus on agentic artificial intelligence within Corporate and Institutional Banking. Planned uses include preparing corporate credit memoranda and supporting sales, trading, research and structuring teams.
The agreement extends BNP Paribas's multi-cloud and multi-model strategy rather than committing the bank to a single technology provider. Gemini models are due to be integrated into LLM@CIB, the bank's internal generative-AI assistant available to more than 65,000 employees. Google technology is already used at Nickel, where an assistant helps 200 advisers retrieve answers from operating procedures.
AGENTS MOVE INTO BANK WORKFLOWS
BNP Paribas said Gemini Enterprise will allow teams to build, evaluate and deploy purpose-specific agents. The first applications are intended to assist teams with targeted workflows. "Agentic AI can help our teams handle more complex workflows while maintaining the appropriate level of control," said Charles Holive, chief AI officer of BNP Paribas CIB.
The partnership also includes access to Google Cloud's AI-optimised infrastructure. BNP Paribas said the deployment will follow its existing security and data-governance framework. Each agent will be authenticated, limited to the resources required for its task and monitored when connecting with group information systems.
SENSITIVE DATA REMAINS RESTRICTED
The bank will continue to keep certain categories of sensitive customer data and critical operations outside public-cloud environments. Group chief information officer Marc Camus told Reuters that signing the agreement did not mean the bank would "get rid of our on-premise infrastructure". The agreement adds Google to an existing technology ecosystem rather than replacing BNP Paribas's other cloud and model relationships.
BNP Paribas did not disclose the agreement's financial terms. The partnership will also feed into the group-wide AI adoption programme, with training ranging from foundational AI literacy to specialised agent development.
