Chilean banks eased lending conditions for housing loans and loans to real-estate firms in the third quarter of 2026 and saw stronger demand in both segments, according to the Central Bank's Bank Lending Survey, published on a Wednesday.

In the housing portfolio, 30% of banks reported more flexible credit conditions than in the previous quarter. On the demand side, 40% of banks reported a rebound in mortgage loan applications, which the report links to better rates, while the share seeing weaker demand fell from 20% to 10%.

For real-estate firms, the share of banks reporting more favourable lending conditions rose to 30%. The share reporting stronger financing requests in the segment rose from 33% to 40%.

Credit supply to construction firms was unchanged, with 90% of banks keeping approval standards the same. For large companies, 15% of banks reported looser conditions and the share reporting tighter standards fell to 8%.

The survey results are consistent with the good results of the mortgage interest-rate subsidy, an initiative that seeks to facilitate access to housing and support the recovery of the real-estate sector.

The report comes against the backdrop of the capital markets reform bill, which also aims to ease access to housing and reduce the housing deficit.
