Dutch neobank bunq has reported net profit of €85.3 million for the full year 2024, a 65% increase from the €51.6 million posted in 2023, marking its second consecutive profitable year. The results, announced in April 2025, were accompanied by confirmation that bunq has filed for a US broker-dealer licence, completing the first phase of a two-stage strategy to enter the American market.
TWO-PHASE US MARKET ENTRY
bunq's US entry is structured in two phases. The broker-dealer filing represents the first phase. The company has stated that it plans to refile for a full US banking licence later in 2025, a process that would give it the authority to accept deposits and offer a wider range of banking products to American consumers.
bunq said the broker-dealer step would let it gather operational insights and user feedback before reapplying for a full banking licence.
bunq did not break down the drivers of the increase in its announcement.
