Google Cloud ended its London-region incident on Tuesday after a power event disrupted multiple services. The company told Reuters that full service had been restored in the region. Its final public status notice was more qualified, saying the issue was mitigated for most customers while a very small number remained affected. The update closed the active incident page while support continued case by case.

The disruption began at 06:08 GMT and affected online services used by several British banks and financial firms. Revolut reported problems across payments and account access, while Lloyds, Halifax and HSBC users also encountered disruption. Revolut said customer money and data remained safe. The incident extended beyond finance to public services and other businesses relying on the London infrastructure.

POWER EVENT ENDS REGIONAL DISRUPTION

Google attributed the outage to a power event in one London availability zone. Its status updates first described elevated errors and intermittent network failures before reporting recovery across affected workloads. The incident page recorded an end time of 07:00 Pacific time, while noting that a very small number of customers could still be affected.

Associated Press reported that Lloyds’ application had resumed operation before the incident ended. It also said service problems had been reported elsewhere in Europe, although any connection to the London failure was unclear. The evidence therefore supports a regional cloud incident with wider customer effects, not a confirmed Europe-wide infrastructure failure.

REGULATORY FOLLOW-UP FOCUSES ON RESILIENCE

Britain designated Google Cloud and three other technology providers as critical third parties for the financial sector in July. The designation brought providers supporting important financial services under direct regulatory oversight. European Union regulators have also identified Google among critical technology suppliers to the bloc’s finance industry.

Closure of the incident ends the broad disruption but not the operational review or individual support work. The next milestone will be Google’s promised incident analysis and any follow-up disclosed by British financial regulators or affected banks. Those records should clarify the failure sequence, recovery controls and whether firms need changes to regional failover arrangements.
