AFG Bank Guinée and Proparco signed two financing agreements worth a combined €60 million in Conakry on 6 October. The package comprises a €35 million senior loan for small and medium-sized enterprises. It also includes €25 million of trade-finance guarantees. The partners said the facilities would expand business lending and support Guinean companies’ international trade.
The transaction is the first subsidiary-level deployment of a broader partnership agreed by Atlantic Group and Proparco in May 2026. AFG Bank Guinée was formerly Société Générale Guinée before joining Atlantic Group’s banking network. The bank is repositioning its business towards local enterprises. It plans to use the new facilities to widen both credit and trade support.
FUNDING COMBINES LENDING AND TRADE SUPPORT
The €35 million loan is intended to increase financing available to Guinean SMEs. The separate guarantee envelope is designed to support trade-finance transactions and companies’ supply requirements. This structure gives the bank capacity to fund domestic investment while backing customers that trade with regional and international counterparties.
AFG Bank Guinée said it would mobilise the resources for enterprises contributing to the country’s economic activity. Proparco’s involvement adds longer-term funding and risk support through two complementary instruments. The agreements therefore address investment and trade needs rather than a single lending product.
PORTFOLIO TARGET SET FOR 2027
The bank aims to double its SME portfolio from €60 million to €120 million by 2027 and triple the number of companies it serves. It also plans to relaunch its Maison de la PME with additional staff and a broader service offer. The partners estimate that the programme could maintain or create about 3,800 direct and indirect jobs.
The financing gives AFG Bank Guinée a measurable commercial target as it builds its post-acquisition franchise. Delivery will depend on how quickly the facilities are drawn and converted into qualifying loans and trade guarantees. The next milestones are disclosure of deployment volumes, SME customer growth and progress towards the €120 million portfolio target during 2027.
