The three groups, which generate most of their revenues in Asia, fell sharply in London on 4 June after a report that mainland Chinese residents faced tighter restrictions on opening offshore investment accounts at Hong Kong banks. The mid-cap FTSE 250 added 0.1%. Industrial metal miners rose 1.8%, with Rio Tinto up 1.5% and Glencore up 1.8%. Halma fell 15.4% after forecasting slower revenue growth in fiscal 2027.
Among other movers, Wizz Air rose 6% after beating operating profit expectations, despite forecasting lower first-quarter revenue per available seat kilometre, and Frasers Group gained 1% after launching a €2 billion takeover bid for Hugo Boss. Elsewhere, the European Central Bank raised interest rates for the first time in nearly three years amid tensions in the Middle East, and traders expect the Bank of England to raise borrowing costs by 25 basis points in September.
