HypoVereinsbank has appointed Sam Kendall to its management board from 1 October 2026, giving the UniCredit dealmaker responsibility for Client Solutions in Germany. The remit covers the bank’s Corporate, Individual and Payment Solutions activities in the German market. Kendall will add the German role to his existing group responsibilities rather than relinquishing them.

Kendall will remain UniCredit’s Head of Advisory and Financing Solutions and will continue to report to Group Head of Client Solutions Richard Burton. UniCredit’s Client Solutions division brings together the Corporate, Individual and Payment Solutions product areas and is part of the group-wide UniCredit Unlimited strategy.

A DUAL GERMAN AND GROUP MANDATE

The German appointment places one of UniCredit’s senior dealmakers inside the management structure of UniCredit Bank GmbH, which trades as HypoVereinsbank. German trade publication Private Banking Magazin reported that Kendall will be responsible for the service and product offering in the Corporate, Individual and Payment Solutions areas in Germany.

Kendall has more than 30 years of experience in the financial industry, with senior investment-banking roles at UBS and UniCredit and experience in Asia-Pacific and several English-speaking and European countries, according to the bank. A former UBS dealmaker, he joined UniCredit in 2021.

GERMANY REMAINS CENTRAL TO UNICREDIT

The appointment comes as UniCredit expands its presence in Germany, where it is seeking to take over Commerzbank. Andrea Orcel, UniCredit’s chief executive and chairman of HypoVereinsbank’s supervisory board, described the appointment as a further step in the transformation and a stronger anchoring of the German business, Private Banking Magazin reported.

Kendall’s mandate becomes effective on 1 October, when responsibility for the three German Client Solutions segments formally transfers to him.
