ING reported EUR 10.1 billion of green bonds issued by ING Groep outstanding as of the end of 2024, alongside EUR 3.3 billion of ING-DiBa green covered bonds and EUR 1.9 billion of green RMBS, managed under the bank's Global Green Funding Framework, which was updated and refined during the same year. The disclosure, ING's Global Green Funding allocation and impact reports for 2024, includes impact calculations by external consultants — CFP Green Buildings for Dutch buildings, Drees & Sommer for German residential buildings and Carbon Trust for renewable energy — and limited assurance from KPMG.

The green bond portfolio is concentrated in two use-of-proceeds categories: green buildings, covering residential and commercial properties, and renewable energy projects.

IMPACT DATA

CFP Green Buildings' work involves reporting on energy performance certificate data for green buildings financed in the Netherlands.

NET-ZERO STRATEGY AND TERRA APPROACH

ING's green bond programme sits within a broader sustainability strategy that targets net-zero emissions by 2050, covering both the bank's own operational footprint and the financed emissions embedded across its lending and investment portfolio. The bank applies the Terra approach — a sector-by-sector methodology for aligning its loan book with Paris Agreement emissions pathways — to track and report on progress across the industries in which it provides financing, including energy, real estate, shipping and steel.
