JPMorgan named Edward Bell head of Sub-Saharan Africa investment banking, according to an internal memo reported by Bloomberg News and confirmed by the bank. The appointment gives Bell responsibility for the US bank’s dealmaking activity across the region. The appointment is effective immediately, and Bell reports to Kevin Latter, JPMorgan’s senior country executive, who announced the change in the memo.
Bell joined JPMorgan in 2017. He has worked across M&A, equity and debt capital markets, corporate banking and strategic advisory, Bloomberg reported.
REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONSOLIDATES
The role places a single executive over investment-banking activity spanning multiple Sub-Saharan African markets.
Before joining JPMorgan, he held senior corporate and investment banking roles at Bank of America and also worked at Royal Bank of Scotland International and ABN AMRO.
REGIONAL COMPETITION FOR MANDATES
The appointment comes as global banks compete for advisory and financing mandates across African markets, where capital markets are showing signs of recovery after several subdued years, Bloomberg reported.
