Counsel for 1MDB said Malaysia's High Court had been informed of a proposed settlement process for the state fund's US$1.1 billion Deutsche Bank lawsuit. The lawyer said the parties hoped to conclude the process, according to current court reporting. The court kept a further hearing scheduled for 26 October, so the case has not yet been formally disposed of.
1MDB began the Malaysian proceedings against Deutsche Bank Malaysia in 2021 over three wire transfers made in 2009 and 2011. Deutsche Bank's regulatory filing says the claimed US$1.1 billion represents the total value of those transfers, excluding interest. The bank said a full trial had been scheduled for October and December 2026 after the court rejected a time-bar dismissal request in July 2025.
TERMS AND COMPLETION REMAIN UNDISCLOSED
The proposed settlement remains conditional because neither side has published signed terms or confirmed a payment amount. Reuters reported that 1MDB and Deutsche Bank did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the talks.
The distinction matters because an agreement in principle can still require documentation, approvals and a court order before litigation ends. Any final resolution may also differ materially from the headline value of the claim, which includes neither a disclosed settlement sum nor the additional interest sought by 1MDB.
COURT HEARING IS THE NEXT MILESTONE
A completed agreement would remove one of Deutsche Bank's outstanding civil litigation matters connected with 1MDB. Until then, the lender's earlier disclosure that it had not stated whether it recognised a provision or contingent liability remains the latest public primary-source position.
The next verifiable milestone is the High Court hearing on 26 October or an earlier filing confirming executed terms. Reporting should continue to describe the outcome as proposed unless the parties or the court confirm that the settlement has become final.
