Maybank, Malaysia's largest lender by assets, posted a first-quarter 2025 net profit of MYR 2.59 billion, a 4.0% increase on the same period a year earlier, as higher net interest and insurance income offset a fall in non-interest income.
The results were published on 26 May 2025. The group's net interest margin was 2.04%, down 2 basis points from the previous quarter.
INCOME MIX
Non-interest income reached MYR 2.76 billion during the quarter, representing 35.8% of total income — though non-interest income fell year on year. Net interest income grew 2.3% year-on-year.
ASSET QUALITY AND RETURNS
Impaired loans rose during the quarter, by about 3.5% from the previous quarter, according to analysts.
Annualised return on equity was 11.3%. That was in line with the bank's full-year target of at least 11.3%.
