Bank Danamon Indonesia and MUFG Bank’s Jakarta branch proposed PT Bank MUFG Danamon Tbk as the name of their combined Indonesian banking business. The institutions also presented a proposed logo on Tuesday. The identity remains subject to shareholder, government and regulatory approvals, and does not itself complete the integration.
The transaction would integrate MUFG Bank’s Jakarta branch into Danamon, which is already controlled by the Japanese banking group. MUFG and Danamon first announced the plan in May 2026 and said they expected it to become effective within 2027. The institutions will continue to operate as separate legal entities until the relevant approvals and implementation steps are completed.
A LOCAL PLATFORM WITH GLOBAL OWNERSHIP
The proposed name combines the brands of both institutions and signals a locally incorporated platform linked to MUFG’s international network. Danamon said the integration is intended to provide a broader range of services to customers in Indonesia. The plan spans retail, small-business and wholesale capabilities rather than an immediate product migration.
Danamon reported assets of Rp275.7 trillion at the end of 2025, while MUFG’s Indonesian branch reported Rp207.0 trillion, according to the institutions’ earlier integration announcement. Those figures indicate the scale of the businesses involved but are not a forecast for the combined bank. Local reports said management expects the resulting institution to rank among Indonesia’s larger banks by assets.
APPROVALS DEFINE THE COMPLETION TIMETABLE
The name proposal is a material milestone because it gives customers and investors a clearer view of the intended operating identity. It does not change existing contracts, services or legal responsibilities before closing. The companies said they would continue communicating progress as the integration advances.
The next milestones include shareholder decisions and approvals from Indonesia’s Ministry of Law and financial authorities. Completion remains conditional, and the institutions have not announced a precise effective date within 2027. Investors will therefore watch regulatory filings for confirmation of the final structure and implementation timetable.
