OCBC and Ant International launched a tokenised-deposit treasury service for round-the-clock transfers between Singapore and Malaysia. The service supports Singapore-dollar and US-dollar movements through Ant International's WhaleRTP treasury platform. OCBC said the arrangement lets Ant International and its businesses manage intragroup liquidity outside conventional banking hours.
The partners said the service uses tokenised deposits issued by OCBC. Ant International is using the solution for treasury management between the two markets. The launch extends earlier work between the companies on cross-border payments and treasury technology.
BANK DEPOSITS MOVE ON PROGRAMMABLE RAILS
The service keeps the transferred value within an OCBC deposit relationship while using blockchain infrastructure to move funds. OCBC said transfers can be executed at any time, reducing dependence on conventional operating windows. The initial use case is Ant International's intragroup liquidity management across currencies and jurisdictions.
WhaleRTP connects Ant International's treasury operations and banking partners through a common platform. For OCBC, the project adds a live corporate use case to its digital-asset work without changing the underlying deposit relationship. Neither company disclosed transaction volumes or customer-adoption targets.
CROSS-BORDER USE WILL TEST SCALE
The Singapore-Malaysia corridor gives the partners a practical setting for testing continuous treasury transfers across two linked banking markets. Adoption will depend on corporate demand, operational resilience and compliance arrangements in both jurisdictions. Expansion to more currencies or markets would require further banking and regulatory coordination.
The next evidence of scale will be whether additional corporate users adopt the service and whether transaction activity broadens beyond the initial treasury flows. Regulators and banks will also examine how tokenised deposits interact with existing payment systems. OCBC and Ant International have not announced a timetable for wider deployment.
