QNB Group closed a $2.5 billion senior unsecured syndicated term facility. The financing attracted commitments from 25 international and regional banks and was twice oversubscribed. Nine Asian banks provided about $1.25 billion of the commitments. QNB announced the completed syndication on 11 October.
Bloomberg had reported the financing before QNB published the closing details. The bank said the proceeds would be used for general corporate purposes. It did not disclose the facility's maturity, pricing or drawdown schedule in its announcement.
A BROADER INTERNATIONAL LENDER GROUP
DBS, HSBC, ICBC, Mizuho and Standard Chartered acted as initial mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners. DBS and HSBC were also syndication coordinators, Standard Chartered was documentation coordinator and Mizuho was facility agent. QNB said participation from several jurisdictions broadened its lender base.
The nine Asian banks supplied half of the announced facility amount. That participation supports QNB's stated ambition to expand across the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia. The oversubscription figure describes lender commitments, rather than additional borrowing beyond the $2.5 billion facility.
USE OF FUNDS REMAINS GENERAL
QNB characterised the loan as senior and unsecured, so the announced facility is not tied to specified collateral. General corporate purposes can cover a range of balance-sheet needs, but the bank did not allocate the proceeds to named projects or markets. The disclosure therefore establishes the funding milestone without identifying its eventual deployment.
The next material details would be the facility's tenor, pricing and any subsequent drawdown disclosure. QNB's future funding statements may also show whether the enlarged Asian participation becomes a recurring feature of its wholesale borrowing programme.
