QNB Group has completed its second Qatari Riyal-denominated Shogun bond issuance, raising QAR 750 million from a diversified base of Japanese investors. The 3-year transaction is the largest QAR-denominated Shogun bond issuance to date, according to the group.
In a statement published on the Qatar Stock Exchange website, QNB Group said the deal follows its inaugural QAR Shogun issuance in the first quarter of 2025. It described the second transaction as another important step in its strategy to diversify its funding sources and broaden its access to the Japanese investor market.
TERMS AND ARRANGER
The bond carries a 3-year maturity and was placed with a diversified base of Japanese investors. QNB Group mandated Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) to arrange the issuance, and Sumitomo Mitsui acted as arranger for the transaction.
HOW IT COMPARES WITH THE INAUGURAL ISSUE
QNB Group's inaugural Qatari Riyal-denominated Shogun bond was issued in the first quarter of 2025 and raised QR500 million, exclusively for international investors. The second issuance, which raised QAR 750 million, is the largest QAR-denominated Shogun bond issuance to date.
The first bond was also issued with a three-year tenor, and was described as the first-ever Qatari Riyal Shogun bond issued for that tenor. QNB Group mandated SMBC Group to arrange that issuance, so the same banking group has arranged both transactions.
FUNDING ACTIVITY AND EARNINGS
The group has previously completed a US$2.5 billion term syndicated loan arrangement. Separately, QNB's profit rose 4% to QAR 13.3 billion in the first nine months of 2026.
