Raiffeisen Bank International published preliminary full-year 2024 financial figures on 4 February 2025, reporting consolidated profit of €1.157 billion for the year. The Austrian banking group's results were shaped by exceptional items, including provisions related to legacy Swiss franc and euro mortgage loans in Poland and a charge for ongoing legal proceedings in Russia.
On a core group basis, excluding Russia and Belarus, whose Belarusian units were sold in the fourth quarter of 2024, RBI recorded a profit of €975 million for the full year, stable on the prior year; the group's consolidated return on equity was 9.4%.
POLAND AND RUSSIA PROVISIONS
Exceptional items in 2024 included a negative €824 million deconsolidation effect from the sale of the Belarusian units completed in the fourth quarter. In Poland, RBI set aside €649 million in provisions related to foreign currency mortgage loans, the vast majority of which are denominated in Swiss francs. These loans were extended to retail borrowers in the years before the global financial crisis, when franc-denominated mortgages appeared attractive due to their lower interest costs relative to zloty-denominated products.
In Russia, RBI booked an €840 million provision for ongoing legal proceedings through the income statement of AO Raiffeisenbank.
INCOME, CAPITAL, AND SHAREHOLDER RETURNS
Net interest income for the full year reached €5.779 billion, an increase of 3.3% year-on-year, while net interest income for the core Group excluding Russia and Belarus was stable at €4.155 billion. Fee income contributed €2.638 billion.
RBI's group CET1 ratio was 17.1% at year-end (15.1% excluding Russia). The board proposed a dividend of €1.10 per share for 2024. The figures are unaudited; RBI said its Annual Financial Report 2024 would be published on 25 February 2025.
