RBL Bank reported net profit of ₹482 crore for the quarter ended September 30, up 170% from ₹179 crore a year earlier. Net interest income rose 37% to ₹2,131 crore, while operating profit climbed 92% to ₹1,396 crore. The bank’s published financials also show net profit rising 90% from the preceding quarter.

The private-sector lender’s advances reached ₹1.42 trillion at September 30, increasing 42% year on year. Deposits grew 34% to ₹1.56 trillion, while its capital adequacy ratio stood at 30.10%. Reuters reported that foreign-currency deposits mobilised under a special Reserve Bank of India scheme strengthened the bank’s funding base.

LOAN GROWTH LIFTED CORE INCOME

RBL Bank’s net interest margin rose to 4.61% from 4.51% a year earlier and 4.13% in the June quarter. Other income increased 16% year on year to ₹1,077 crore. The cost-to-income ratio improved to 56.48% from 70.67% a year earlier.

Asset-quality indicators also strengthened. Gross non-performing assets declined to 1.02% of advances from 2.32% a year earlier and 1.30% in June, while the net ratio fell to 0.29% from 0.57% and 0.37%, respectively. Credit costs nevertheless rose to 63 basis points from 54 basis points in both comparison periods.

FUNDING MIX REMAINS THE NEXT TEST

Financial Express reported that RBL mobilised about $3.4 billion of FCNR(B) deposits and extended roughly ₹10,300 crore of leverage-linked loans. Those flows helped accelerate balance-sheet growth, but the bank’s current-account and savings-account ratio fell to 27.21% from 29.21% in June and 31.86% a year earlier.

The results show stronger earnings, faster lending and lower bad-loan ratios, alongside a deposit mix that became more dependent on non-CASA funding. The next quarterly filing will show whether the bank can preserve margins and asset quality as the special foreign-currency funding is deployed through a full reporting period.
