Shinhan Financial Group said on 27 October 2026 that its subsidiary Shinhan Bank's consolidated operating profit for the third quarter was a provisional 1조5천917억원. That is 8.6% more than a year earlier. Net profit rose 12.5% year on year to 1조2천256억원.
Shinhan Bank's third-quarter revenue reached 12조284억원, up 158.7% on the same period last year. The disclosure was made by Shinhan Financial Group, which is listed on the KOSPI.
하나은행 POSTS FASTER PROFIT GROWTH
하나금융지주 announced on 23 October 2026 that its subsidiary 하나은행 recorded a consolidated third-quarter operating profit of 1조5천365억원, up 13.6% year on year. Its revenue was 13조6천906억원, an increase of 102.3%, and net profit grew 14% to 1조1천991억원.
Shinhan Bank's operating profit and net profit were therefore higher than 하나은행's in the quarter. 하나은행, however, recorded faster growth in both measures, and its revenue was larger than Shinhan Bank's 12조284억원.
SECOND-QUARTER RECORD AND SECOND-HALF GUIDANCE
In the second quarter of 2026, Shinhan Financial Group's net income attributable to shareholders was KRW 1.8201 trillion, up 17.50% year on year. Operating income was KRW 2.4763 trillion, up 22.94%. Quarterly return on equity was 12.4%, credit cost fell to 42 basis points, and the CET1 ratio was 13.43% at the end of June.
On the second-quarter call, management guided that Shinhan Bank's net interest margin would widen by a further 3 to 4 basis points in the second half of 2026. It also guided that risk-weighted assets, excluding currency effects, would grow 4% to 5% for the year. The full-year buyback payout ratio was guided at between 50.2% and 53%.
MARGIN, FEE INCOME AND CAPITAL FACE TESTS
The margin widened by only 1 basis point in the second quarter, and the average yield on won loans slipped from 4.3% in 2025 to 4.2% in the first half of 2026. Interest income growth so far has therefore come from volume. The third quarter is the first period that can test loan repricing after the July rate hike.
Group net fee and commission income reached KRW 2.13 trillion in the first half, up 47.9% year on year. Management committed only to second-half capital-market revenue in line with the first half, and conceded that brokerage would not repeat its second-quarter strength. Third-quarter fees will show how much of that growth is durable.
The group targets a CET1 range of 13.0% to 13.4%. It completed a KRW 700 billion buyback on 20 October 2026, and on 13 October 2026 it resolved to buy 77.04% of Lotte Non-Life Insurance for KRW 693.3 billion in cash. The third-quarter CET1 ratio will set how much room remains for a fourth-quarter buyback.
