Stanbic Bank Kenya posted a profit after tax of KES 3.3 billion in the first quarter of 2025, a 16.6% decline compared with the same period a year earlier, as lower foreign exchange trading income reduced the bank's non-funded income. Profit before tax fell 25.3% to KES 4.1 billion.
Total operating income contracted 7.1% year-on-year to KES 9.5 billion, with the decline concentrated in the non-funded income line. Net interest income provided a partial offset, rising 4.6% to KES 6.8 billion, as interest expenses fell 24.6% and income from government securities more than doubled, offsetting lower interest income from loans.
NON-FUNDED INCOME
Non-funded income fell 27.2% year-on-year to KES 2.8 billion, as foreign exchange trading income dropped to KES 978 million from KES 2.4 billion a year earlier.
Earnings per share were KES 19.54, compared with KES 23.43 in Q1 2024.
OPERATING EXPENSES
Operating expenses rose 13.6% year-on-year.
