Saudi buy-now-pay-later fintech Tamara has received a consumer finance and BNPL licence from the Saudi Central Bank, known as SAMA. The licence, granted in March 2025, enables Tamara to offer financing solutions exceeding SAR 5,000 — equivalent to approximately USD 1,333.

The authorisation places Tamara among the 65 finance companies that hold a SAMA licence.

REGULATORY CONTEXT

The central bank introduced specific BNPL regulations to govern instalment payment providers operating in Saudi Arabia, requiring companies to obtain appropriate licences and meet consumer protection and credit risk standards before offering financing products to the public.

Tamara operates across Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait.
