The Central Bank of Uzbekistan fined eight banks for failing to meet financial requirements and for breaking the law. The fine decisions were taken in September 2026 as a result of the regulator's supervisory work.

The penalties were applied after the violations and non-compliance found were reviewed. In September the committee held eight meetings and reviewed 37 issues.

Of those 37 issues, 21 concerned registration and the issuing of permits. The remaining 16 concerned compliance with financial requirements, execution of central bank orders and inspection results for banks and non-bank credit institutions.

The committee also reviewed testing of financial services in the regulatory sandbox, a special regime for trying new solutions under controlled conditions.

As context, from 10 January 2027 Uzbek commercial banks will not be able to debit all the funds on clients' cards to repay loans and guarantee obligations without the clients' instruction.
