Absa Group said Alpheus Mangale resigned as an independent non-executive director with effect from 8 October 2026. The bank attributed the departure to personal reasons and future commitments. Mangale also stepped down from three board committees.

Mangale joined the Absa Group board in July 2023. His committee seats covered group risk and capital management, remuneration and information technology. The JSE announcement did not name a successor or provide a timetable for filling the vacated roles.

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES CHANGED

Absa disclosed the change under JSE equity-listing and debt-securities requirements. The filing notified shareholders of both the board departure and the resulting committee changes.

ITWeb reported that Mangale previously served as Standard Bank’s group chief engineering officer. His earlier senior roles included positions at Cisco Systems, MTN Business and Dimension Data.

SUCCESSION DETAILS REMAIN OPEN

The filing contained no appointment to replace Mangale on the board or its committees. Absa may reallocate those responsibilities or announce a new director, but neither step had been disclosed.

Investors will next watch for a further JSE notice on board composition and committee membership. Until then, the confirmed development is limited to Mangale’s departure and his three vacated committee seats.
