Angola’s central bank lowered its benchmark lending rate by 100 basis points to 14.75% on 15 September. It was the third consecutive reduction, Reuters reported. Annual inflation had slowed to 8.78% in August from 9.33% in July.

The decision followed reductions in May and July. The Banco Nacional de Angola linked the easing to progress in inflation and its near-term outlook, Novo Jornal reported. Monthly price growth also slowed, reaching 0.59% in August against 0.75% in July.

RESERVE REQUIREMENTS ALSO REDUCED

The committee reduced banks’ local-currency reserve requirement from 17.5% to 16.5%, according to Novo Jornal. That changes the reserve ratio alongside the policy-rate reduction.

The central bank retained its year-end inflation projection of 8.6%, with a one-percentage-point range on either side. This remains a forecast rather than a measured outcome.

GROWTH OUTLOOK AND NEXT MEETING

It raised its 2026 growth forecast to 6.15%. Novo Jornal reported that the revision reflected stronger non-oil activity, including manufacturing, trade and construction.

The next policy meeting is scheduled for 16–17 November in Saurimo, according to Novo Jornal’s account of the communiqué. Further easing is not assured and will depend on subsequent policy decisions.
