Barclays appointed Wee Yee-Yeong as head of Private Bank Singapore and head of Private Bank Asia. He will join later in 2026 from Morgan Stanley and will be based in Singapore. Wee will succeed Alexander Harrison, who has served as interim head of the Singapore private bank. Barclays did not disclose a precise starting date.
Wee is currently chief executive and head of sales for Morgan Stanley's Singapore wealth-management business. He has more than two decades of experience across Morgan Stanley, Bank of Singapore, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, UBS Wealth Management and Merrill Lynch. His remit will include the Singapore franchise and wider regional strategy.
SINGAPORE EXPANSION CONTINUES
The appointment follows Barclays' launch of a Singapore booking centre as it expands wealth management in Asia. The operation targets entrepreneurs, ultra-high-net-worth clients and family offices with banking, investment and financing needs across markets. Wee will also work with distribution teams serving international Asian clients.
Annabelle Bryde, head of Barclays Private Bank International, described Singapore as a gateway for Asia-Pacific growth. Barclays Asia-Pacific chief executive Jaideep Khanna linked the appointment and booking centre to the bank's long-term regional ambitions. Barclays has operated in Asia Pacific for more than 50 years.
REGIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES CLARIFIED
Barclays said its India private-bank business would remain under Adrish Ghosh, who reports directly to Bryde. That separates India's leadership from Wee's new Singapore and Asia responsibilities. The structure is intended to connect private-bank clients with Barclays' wider banking, markets and financing capabilities.
The next milestone is Wee's confirmed start later in 2026 and the transition from Harrison's interim leadership. Barclays will then need to show whether the booking centre and new regional leadership translate into client and asset growth. Any further senior appointments would indicate how the Asia build-out is being staffed.
