Olivier Gavalda was formally appointed Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole SA on 14 May 2025, following the group's General Shareholders' Meeting, succeeding Philippe Brassac who had led the French banking group for a decade. Brassac, aged 65, reached the maximum age limit stipulated for the chief executive position under the group's governance rules, triggering the planned leadership transition that had been announced in advance of the shareholders' meeting.
He had been Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole SA in charge of Universal Banking since November 2022, having previously been Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole Ile-de-France from 2016 and, in 2015, Deputy CEO in charge of Development, Customer and Innovation. His appointment was confirmed in a statement published by the bank following the general meeting.
A DECADE UNDER BRASSAC'S LEADERSHIP
Philippe Brassac took charge of Crédit Agricole SA in May 2015.
Brassac also chaired the retail subsidiary LCL and oversaw Crédit Agricole SA's businesses, and subsidiaries spanning consumer finance, leasing and international retail banking.
