Danske Bank has introduced a service that lets customers connect their AI solutions directly to the bank's Premium APIs. By connecting directly, customers can ask questions, create tailored financial views and, ultimately, take action with a simple prompt.

The service uses a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which acts as a bridge between a customer's AI solution and the bank's application programming interfaces (APIs). The bank said the service gives customers greater control over how and where they use their financial data.

WHAT CUSTOMERS CAN ASK AI ASSISTANTS TO DO

A customer can ask its AI assistant to provide an overview of current account balances, analyse recent transactions and create tailored financial views. The assistant can also build a cash-flow forecast and combine information from several APIs in one interaction.

Customers no longer need to switch between bank portals, treasury systems, accounting platforms and spreadsheets, according to the bank. They can connect their AI solutions directly to Danske Bank's Premium APIs instead.

SECURITY AND ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

Because the service uses existing APIs, the customer's AI agent connects through the same secure, authenticated infrastructure as other customer integrations. Access to a customer's own banking data requires the relevant onboarding, certificates, credentials and subscriptions.

A SIMPLER ROUTE INTO PREMIUM APIS

The service enables an AI agent to understand and navigate Danske Bank's portfolio of Premium APIs. It can help customers identify relevant capabilities, access documentation, test APIs using mock data and establish a connection within their preferred agentic AI solution.

This makes it significantly easier for customers, including those without traditional development expertise, to explore and start using the Premium APIs. They do not need the same level of technical integration typically required.

PILOT, STRATEGY AND THE DANISH BACKDROP

The bank's developer documentation says its MCP Service gives selected corporate customers the ability to connect their AI agents with Danske Bank's Premium APIs. They can then access and view their own financial data within their preferred agentic AI tool.

Flaminia Franca, Head of Transaction Banking in Danske Bank, said: "By combining close customer collaboration with our focus on GenAI innovation, we can quickly explore new solutions that simplify financial operations and give customers greater control." Separately, the bank's developer documentation says Danske Bank Norway became a dedicated bank for business, corporate and institutional customers on 18 November 2024. It also says business customers in Denmark, Sweden and Norway using Business eBanking would be migrated in stages to a new digital channel, District, between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025.

A Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) study found that more than seven in ten companies use either generative AI or other types of AI. The FSA said the technology is mainly used internally and only to a limited extent in customer-facing systems and regulated areas. A 2019 FSA paper contains recommendations in nine specific areas that companies may consider as the use of machine learning, or more broadly AI, increases.
