DBS Group announced in December 2024 a set of senior leadership appointments that will take effect from 1 January 2025. Han Kwee Juan was named Group Head of Institutional Banking, succeeding Tan Su Shan in the role, while Lim Him Chuan was appointed Singapore Country Head. The two appointments, announced simultaneously, provided a clear transition framework that allowed the bank to enter the new year with settled leadership across two of its most consequential positions.
The December announcements came weeks after a separate senior personnel development: on 20 November 2024, DBS confirmed that Shee Tse Koon had been appointed President Commissioner of PT Bank DBS Indonesia, adding to the series of leadership changes the group has been managing across its regional franchise. Taken together, the appointments in late 2024 reflected a period of deliberate management refreshment at one of Asia's most consistently regarded banking groups.
HAN KWEE JUAN LEADS INSTITUTIONAL BANKING
Han Kwee Juan's appointment as Group Head of Institutional Banking placed him in charge of one of DBS's most strategically important divisions, which serves large corporates, financial institutions, multinational companies, and public sector entities across the markets in which the group operates. The institutional banking franchise has been a major contributor to DBS's fee income and balance sheet growth over recent years, benefiting from the bank's deepening presence in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, and across Southeast Asia, where it has expanded its corporate client base significantly.
Tan Su Shan, whom Han succeeds in the role, had been a prominent figure in DBS's institutional franchise over an extended period, and her departure from the divisional leadership position was managed as part of a planned succession process rather than an abrupt change. DBS has a well-established practice of promoting from within its senior management pool for major divisional roles, and the selection of an internal successor to lead institutional banking was consistent with that approach. The appointment was seen in the context of DBS's broader ambition to deepen its position as the leading bank for corporate and institutional clients across its footprint.
LIM HIM CHUAN TAKES OVER AS SINGAPORE COUNTRY HEAD
Lim Him Chuan's appointment as Singapore Country Head from 1 January 2025 gave him oversight of DBS's home market operations, where the bank holds a commanding position across retail banking, private wealth management, SME banking, and corporate lending. Singapore is the single largest contributor to DBS Group's earnings and is central to its identity as a regional banking leader. The country head role carries responsibility for the bank's relationships with the Monetary Authority of Singapore, its regulatory obligations within the city-state, and its community and sustainability commitments in Singapore.
The two leadership transitions announced in December, combined with the November appointment of Shee Tse Koon in Indonesia, illustrated the scale of management movement at DBS as it enters a new phase of its regional growth strategy. Group Chief Executive Piyush Gupta has placed consistent emphasis on leadership development and succession planning as pillars of the bank's long-term management philosophy, and the December announcements reinforced that commitment by ensuring both the institutional banking engine and the Singapore home franchise had clear, well-prepared leadership in place as the calendar turned.
