Berlin-based fintech Moss has closed a EUR 35 million Series C funding round led by Portage at a EUR 1 billion valuation, granting the company unicorn status, the firm said on 11 August 2026. Cherry Ventures also participated in the round, joining the existing shareholder base of one of Germany's more prominent business-to-business fintech names.

The financing takes total funding raised by Moss to more than EUR 200 million since its founding in 2019. The company said the proceeds will be used to build out a Finance AI product covering accounts receivable, journal entries and month-end close, extending the reach of its platform from spend management into the broader accounting workflow of small and mid-sized businesses.

FINANCE AI FOR THE BACK OFFICE

Moss has evolved from a corporate-card and spend-management platform for small and mid-sized businesses into a broader software provider for finance teams. Directing new capital towards a Finance AI stack aimed at accounts receivable, journal entries and month-end close reflects a wider industry push to embed generative and agentic AI into the accounting workflow, and to move software from a purely record-keeping role into more active operational support.

Automating month-end close and the accounts receivable cycle addresses two of the most time-consuming and error-prone areas of the finance function, particularly for growing businesses whose transaction volumes outpace the ability of manual processes to keep up. Positioning Moss as a Finance AI provider takes it further into the enterprise resource planning adjacent space and into direct competition with a growing group of specialist accounting-workflow software vendors.

The addressable market for such tools has expanded rapidly as European mid-market businesses have digitised their finance operations, and as demand has grown for software that can plug into existing accounting systems rather than replace them wholesale. Moss's existing spend-management footprint provides a natural entry point for cross-selling AI-driven modules into finance teams that are already using the platform.

5,000 BUSINESSES ACROSS EUROPE

Moss said its platform powers back-office operations for more than 5,000 businesses across Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and other European markets. That installed base gives the company a substantial pool of transaction data on which to train and deploy AI-driven features, and provides an existing revenue stream to fund the broader product ambition set out with the Series C.

Reaching a EUR 1 billion valuation places Moss among a small group of European fintechs that have joined the unicorn cohort in 2026 amid an otherwise more measured funding environment. Portage's decision to lead the round at that valuation signals continued institutional appetite for business-to-business fintech platforms with recurring revenue and a clear path into AI-driven product expansion, particularly those with proven traction across multiple European markets.

The Series C also marks a significant milestone for the European fintech scene, which has seen a slower pace of new unicorns in recent quarters. For Moss, the fresh capital and elevated valuation provide the resources to accelerate hiring in engineering and product roles focused on the Finance AI initiative, and to deepen its footprint across the European markets in which it already operates.
