Ahmed Al-Musalmi was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Oman by Royal Decree 5/2025, issued on 1 January 2025, succeeding Tahir Al Amri, who had headed the central bank as Executive President since 2017. Al-Musalmi is a commercial banker who was chief executive of Sohar International and previously headed National Bank of Oman.
The Central Bank of Oman is responsible for both monetary policy and prudential regulation, and the Governor's role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities from maintaining the rial's exchange rate peg to the US dollar to supervising the capital adequacy of the banking sector.
