Spain's Bankinter Appoints Gloria Ortiz as Chief Executive Following AGM Approval

Gloria Ortiz Portero has been appointed chief executive of Bankinter S.A. with effect from 21 March 2024, following approval of her appointment at the bank's annual general meeting. Ortiz succeeds María Dolores Dancausa, who led the Ibex 35-listed lender for more than a decade. Dancausa transitions to a new role as non-executive Chair of the bank's board.

The leadership transition had been announced in advance. The AGM vote formalised the succession.

ORTIZ'S CAREER AT BANKINTER

Ortiz joined Bankinter in 2001 and has served as head of investor relations, Group Chief Financial Officer, head of Digital Banking, Technology and Operations, and General Manager of Commercial Banking.

DANCAUSA'S TENURE

María Dolores Dancausa's tenure as chief executive included the spin-off and stock-market listing of insurer Línea Directa in 2021. Under her stewardship the bank navigated the European sovereign debt crisis, an extended low interest rate environment and the pandemic.

Bankinter's most recent results showed record annual profit for 2023.
