Truist added former Bank of America executive Cathy Bessant to its board, bringing on a 40-year industry veteran who retired from BofA in 2023 as vice chair of global strategy.
The appointment, announced by Truist, followed a long tenure at Bank of America during which Bessant held senior roles overseeing technology and strategy. Truist announced the appointment on 8 June.
EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND
Bessant spent four decades at Bank of America, rising to the role of vice chair of global strategy before retiring in 2023. American Banker inducted her into its Most Powerful Women in Banking Hall of Fame in 2020.
Her roles at Bank of America included chief operations and technology officer, president of global corporate banking, chief marketing officer and president of consumer real estate and community development banking. She later served as chief executive of the Foundation For The Carolinas.
TRUIST STATEMENT
Truist said Bessant would serve on the board's risk committee. Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers said her track record of digital, technology and operational transformation would serve the bank well.
Bessant said: "I'm honored to join the board of such a great franchise in this exciting moment of industry transformation."
