Methodology
Every figure in these tables comes from the bank's own published documents, and every row links to the document it came from.
01Sources
Every figure in these tables was taken from the bank's own annual report, integrated or sustainability report, results presentation or an official stock-exchange filing, and every row links to the document it came from. News reports, surveys, awards and third-party databases were not used as sources. Figures that a bank does not publish are left out rather than estimated.
02Who is included
All 201 banking groups in the 2026 TGB Bank Rankings were researched. A bank appears in a table only if it discloses that measure for its financial year ending in 2025 (for Japanese and Indian banks, the year to 31 March 2026). Figures for an earlier year are not used.
03Checking
Every figure was extracted with its page number and the exact sentence it comes from. The leading entries in each table were then re-opened and checked a second time by a separate researcher; figures that turned out to measure something different (for example registered rather than active users, or social rather than green bonds) were corrected or removed.
04Measures
- Active digital users: customers who used the bank's mobile app or online banking within the bank's activity window (usually the past month or 90 days). Registered, enrolled or subscribed users are excluded. Where a bank reports several apps together, the definition column says so.
- Digital adoption: digitally active customers as a share of the bank's customers, as the bank reports it.
- Digital share of sales: the share of retail or consumer product sales (by units or value, as reported) made through digital channels. Single-product measures are listed but not ranked.
- App rating: the average rating and number of ratings of the bank's main retail app on the Apple App Store in its home country, captured on 8 October 2026. Apps with fewer than 10,000 ratings are not ranked.
05Digital Leaders
A bank is a Digital Leader if it ranks in the top quarter of at least two of the four tables. There is no combined score: banks disclose different things, and a single score would require estimates.
06Comparability
- Banks define activity and customer bases differently; the definition column shows each bank's own wording, summarised.
- Some figures cover a home market or a retail division only, as noted.
- App ratings reflect one store in one country and change over time.
07Corrections
Found an error? Email [email protected] with the bank's filing and we will review it within five working days.
Report a figureQuestions and answers
Short answers drawn from the tables on this page.
01Which large banks lead in digital banking in 2026?
Based on the banks' own FY2025 disclosures, the 2026 TGB Digital Leaders are Lloyds Banking Group, AIB Group, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of America, Bci, China Merchants Bank, Citigroup, ICBC, Industrial Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Yapı Kredi. Each ranks in the top quarter of at least two of four measures: active digital users, digital adoption, digital share of sales and app rating.
02Which bank has the most digital customers?
ICBC reports the largest active digital user base (290 million), followed by Agricultural Bank of China (276 million) and China Construction Bank (246 million). Among banks outside China, JPMorgan Chase leads.
03Which banks have the best mobile banking apps?
On the Apple App Store in their home markets (apps with at least 10,000 ratings), the highest-rated large-bank apps are those of E.Sun Financial, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, China Merchants Bank, Citigroup, CTBC Financial Holding. Ratings were captured on 8 October 2026.
04How are these rankings different from awards?
No bank applied, paid or was surveyed. Every figure comes from the bank's own published documents and links to its source, and banks that do not publish a figure are simply not listed for that measure.
