TGB Bank Strength Index
One score from 0 to 100 that combines size, capital and returns for every banking group with at least US$50 billion of assets.
The index scores all 361 banking groups with total assets of at least US$50 billion and complete FY2025 data, excluding Turkish banks whose accounts are not adjusted for inflation.
Al Rajhi Bank has the highest score, followed by Emirates NBD (85.2) and Saudi National Bank (84.4).
The median score is 50.8. A score is relative: it shows how a bank compares with the other 360 banks on three measures, not an absolute level of strength.
The score gives equal weight to size, capital and returns, each measured as a percentile of the eligible banks. It is not a credit rating or a safety assessment.

The 100 highest-scoring banks are shown. Each score is calculated across all 361 banks scored, and the medians and counts above cover all 361.
How to read the table. The score is the average of the three pillar scores. Each pillar is a percentile from 0 (lowest of the eligible banks) to 100 (highest). The underlying figures are in US$ billions at each bank's financial-year-end exchange rate; ROA and ROE use year-end balances. Click a column heading to sort; the source icon opens the report or filing each bank's figures were taken from. Methodology
Not scored. Turkish banks (T.C. Ziraat Bankası, VakıfBank, Türkiye İş Bankası, Halkbank, Akbank, Yapı Kredi): their BRSA accounts are not adjusted for inflation, so their returns are not comparable with other banks'.

Methodology
The TGB Bank Strength Index is calculated entirely from the FY2025 figures in The Global Banker rankings, which come from each bank's own audited financial statements or official full-year results filings. Every bank links to its source.
01The formula
Each bank receives three pillar scores, each from 0 to 100, and the index is their simple average:
Strength Index = (Size + Capital + Returns) ÷ 3- Size
- Percentile of total assets.
- Capital
- Percentile of equity ÷ total assets.
- Returns
The average of the percentiles of return on equity and return on assets.
A percentile places a bank among all eligible banks:
percentile = (r − 1) ÷ (N − 1) × 100where N is the number of eligible banks (361 in this edition) and r is the bank's position when all eligible banks are sorted from the lowest to the highest value (1 = lowest, N = highest). Banks with exactly the same value share the average of their positions. The lowest value scores 0 and the highest scores 100. Scores are calculated to full precision and shown to one decimal place; the ranking uses the unrounded score.
02Inputs
- Total assets
- Consolidated total assets at the financial year end, in US dollars at the central bank's official reference rate for that date.
- Equity / assets
Equity attributable to shareholders of the parent, including additional Tier 1 and preference capital that the bank classifies as equity, and excluding non-controlling interests, divided by total assets.- ROE and ROA
Net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent (before distributions on additional Tier 1 instruments) divided by year-end equity and year-end total assets respectively.
These are the same FY2025 figures shown in the Global Top 100 and the regional tables, taken from each bank's own audited financial statements or official full-year results filings. The index adds no new inputs and involves no judgement: it is calculated in code from those figures.
03Who is included
All banking groups in the 2026 TGB Bank Rankings with total assets of at least US$50 billion and a complete set of FY2025 figures (total assets, equity and net profit), the same group of banks as the profitability and capital-strength tables: 361 banks in this edition.
Turkish banks (T.C. Ziraat Bankası, VakıfBank, Türkiye İş Bankası, Halkbank, Akbank, Yapı Kredi) are excluded. Their figures are BRSA consolidated accounts that were not adjusted for inflation for 2025, which inflates nominal returns, so their ROE and ROA are not comparable with other banks'. Including them would push other banks' returns percentiles down.
04What the index is not
This is not a credit rating or a safety assessment. The index compares banks with each other on three accounting measures from their published accounts. It does not assess asset quality, liquidity, funding, risk-weighted or regulatory capital, or the likelihood that a bank will meet its obligations, and it is not investment advice. A high score does not mean that a bank is safe, and a low score does not mean that it is unsafe.
Equal weighting is a simple convention, not a view that size, capital and returns matter equally. Size favours the largest groups; equity to assets is an unweighted leverage measure that does not account for the riskiness of assets; returns reflect local interest rates and inflation as well as management. Percentiles show order, not distance: a small difference in a ratio can move a bank several points where many banks are close together.
05Comparability notes
Banks report under different accounting frameworks (IFRS, US GAAP, Japanese GAAP, Indian GAAP and local regulatory standards). Figures are taken as reported and not adjusted between frameworks.
All banks are compared on their FY2025 accounts: the latest audited financial year ending between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026.
When a bank's figures are corrected or added, every bank's percentiles are recalculated, so other banks' scores can move slightly.
