The world's sustainable finance leaders
Which of the world's largest banks provide, hold and raise the most sustainable finance, measured only with figures the banks publish themselves.
These tables compare how much sustainable finance the world's large banks report providing, holding and raising, using only the banks' own FY2025 disclosures. 12 banks qualify as 2026 Sustainable Finance Leaders by ranking in the top quarter of at least two measures.
ING Group reports the most sustainable finance provided in 2025 (US$194.9bn).
ICBC reports the largest green loan book (US$958.5bn outstanding).
The tables measure disclosed financing activity. They do not measure a bank's overall climate impact, its financing of fossil fuels or the quality of its targets, and definitions differ widely between banks, so each row shows what the bank counts.
The 2026 Sustainable Finance Leaders
Banks that rank in the top quarter of at least two of the three tables below.
Sustainable finance provided in 2025
Sustainable, green or transition finance that each bank reports providing, arranging or facilitating during its 2025 financial year, in US$ billions. What counts differs widely: some banks count only their own loans, others include bonds they arranged for clients.

Methodology
Every figure in these tables comes from the bank's own published documents, and every row links to the document it came from.
01Sources
Every figure in these tables was taken from the bank's own annual report, integrated or sustainability report, results presentation or an official stock-exchange filing, and every row links to the document it came from. News reports, surveys, awards and third-party databases were not used as sources. Figures that a bank does not publish are left out rather than estimated.
02Who is included
All 201 banking groups in the 2026 TGB Bank Rankings were researched. A bank appears in a table only if it discloses that measure for its financial year ending in 2025 (for Japanese and Indian banks, the year to 31 March 2026). Figures for an earlier year are not used.
03Checking
Every figure was extracted with its page number and the exact sentence it comes from. The leading entries in each table were then re-opened and checked a second time by a separate researcher; figures that turned out to measure something different (for example registered rather than active users, or social rather than green bonds) were corrected or removed.
04Measures
- Sustainable finance provided in 2025: the amount of sustainable, green, social or transition finance the bank reports providing, arranging or facilitating during its 2025 financial year. Cumulative totals, year-end balances and partial years are not ranked.
- Green and sustainable loan book: green or sustainable loans outstanding at the year-end, as reported. The Scope column separates green loans, broader sustainable-finance portfolios and green-bond asset pools.
- Labelled bonds issued: green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds and sukuk issued by the bank itself during the year.
05Sustainable Finance Leaders
A bank is a Sustainable Finance Leader if it ranks in the top quarter of at least two of the three tables. There is no combined score.
06Currency conversion
Amounts are converted into US dollars at the market exchange rate on 31 December 2025, or on the bank's own year-end date for banks with other year-ends.
07What this does not measure
- Fossil-fuel financing, financed emissions or the credibility of climate targets.
- Figures are as defined by each bank and are not adjusted to a common taxonomy.
08Corrections

Short answers drawn from the tables on this page.
01Which banks lead in sustainable finance in 2026?
Based on the banks' own FY2025 disclosures, the 2026 TGB Sustainable Finance Leaders are Agricultural Bank of China, BNP Paribas, Bank of China, Bank of Communications, China Construction Bank, Crédit Agricole Group, DBS Group, ICBC, ING Group, Lloyds Banking Group, Nordea, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. Each ranks in the top quarter of at least two of three measures: sustainable finance provided in 2025, green and sustainable loans outstanding, and labelled bonds issued.
02Which banks provided the most sustainable finance in 2025?
Among banks that have published a full-year 2025 figure, ING Group (US$194.9bn), BBVA (US$157.3bn) and Deutsche Bank (US$115.1bn) report the largest amounts. Definitions differ: some include bonds arranged for clients and investment activity.
03Which banks have the largest green loan books?
China's largest banks report the biggest green loan books: ICBC (about US$958.5bn), China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China. Outside China, BNP Paribas reports the largest portfolio (US$191.4bn, sustainable loans (incl. undrawn)).
04Does this ranking measure how green a bank is?
No. It measures disclosed sustainable-finance activity. It does not net off fossil-fuel financing, assess targets or measure emissions. It is a factual comparison of what banks report, with links to each source.
