Nexi, the Milan-based paytech group, and PayPal announced on 31 March 2026 an expansion of their partnership across Europe, extending a collaboration that began in Italy in 2016. The companies said the expanded alliance aims to help businesses digitise faster and to simplify payments for their customers.
At the core of the agreement is the integration of the PayPal ecosystem directly into Nexi's merchant platform, with Nexi acting as the collecting payment service provider (PSP) for PayPal transactions. The companies said merchants will benefit from a unified system that removes the friction of managing different platforms, with easier onboarding, unified fund management and simplified reporting.
ROLLOUT MARKETS
The rollout will initially focus on Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Poland. In Italy, which remains a key market for innovation for both companies, the partnership now includes full integration of PayPal Checkout and PayPal Pay Later, giving consumers instalment options of 3, 6, 12 or 24 months.
The two companies said they are also exploring future solutions, including AI-powered payment experiences and new digital commerce models, with the aim of anticipating market demands and delivering more integrated digital journeys for businesses.
“By integrating PayPal directly into our platform, we give merchants a powerful tool to grow their business through a simple, scalable digital solution,” said Roberto Catanzaro, Chief Business Officer, Merchant Solutions at Nexi Group.
Samba Natarajan, General Manager for Europe at PayPal, said: “This collaboration strengthens our commitment to making digital payments simple and convenient.” The announcement follows Nexi's expansion of its partnership with Swedish buy now, pay later provider Klarna in 2025.
