PayPal reported that Venmo revenue grew 20 per cent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2025, outpacing the platform's total payment volume growth. The figures were disclosed with the company's Q1 2025 results on 29 April 2025.

Venmo was built initially as a social money-transfer tool. PayPal has introduced revenue-bearing features including business profiles, branded checkout acceptance, the Venmo debit and credit cards, and instant transfer fees.

MONETISED USERS AND LONG-TERM REVENUE TARGETS

Management has highlighted growth in monetised active accounts — users who engage with Venmo beyond peer-to-peer payments and instant transfers — as a key indicator of monetisation progress, as overall user counts include a large proportion of accounts that use Venmo only for free person-to-person transfers.

PayPal has set a stated target for Venmo to reach $2 billion in annual revenue by 2027.

PayPal's total payment volume rose 3% in the quarter, while transaction margin dollars grew 7%.
