Fintech firm BharatPe has appointed Himanshu Verma as Head of its point-of-sale (POS) business, effective immediately, signaling a strategic intensification of its offline payments ambitions.
Verma, with more than two decades of expertise in channel sales, distribution, go-to-market strategies, UPI payments, POS/EDC acquisitions, and merchant onboarding, steps into the role to drive merchant adoption, strengthen distribution networks, and scale BharatPe's offline payments ecosystem. Reporting directly to CEO Nalin Negi, he will spearhead efforts to expand the company's merchant footprint, a critical lever as offline payments emerge as a growth segment in India's fintech sector.
VERMA'S PROVEN TRACK RECORD
Himanshu Verma's career demonstrates his expertise in building and scaling payment businesses. Most recently at Pine Labs, he served as Senior Director and National Business Head for Soundbox (Mini), where he led the incubation, launch, and scale of the business. His leadership there drove merchant growth and acceptance through POS initiatives.
Prior roles further underscore his depth: at Freecharge, Indepay Networks, Bharti Airtel, Samsung India, Uninor, and Vodafone, Verma managed large teams and expanded market reach. His execution-led approach has consistently delivered operational excellence, making him an ideal fit for BharatPe's ambitions.
CEO NEGI'S STRATEGIC VISION
Nalin Negi, BharatPe's CEO, emphasized Verma's alignment with the company's growth trajectory. "His deep experience in scaling large payment businesses and driving disciplined execution will be key as we continue to strengthen our POS portfolio and expand our merchant footprint. We believe his leadership will help us accelerate our next phase of growth in the offline payments space," Negi said.
Negi's endorsement highlights BharatPe's merchant-centric strategy, which has positioned it as a key player in India's digital payments ecosystem. The company has onboarded millions of merchants through zero-fee UPI QR codes, lending solutions, and an expanding POS vertical.
OFFLINE PAYMENTS EXPANSION
India's offline payments market represents significant growth potential. Offline segments—including soundboxes, EDC terminals, and tap-and-pay solutions—offer opportunities, especially for small merchants in tier-2 and tier-3 cities where digital infrastructure continues to develop.
BharatPe's POS push aligns with broader industry trends. The company's focus on merchant hardware and distribution positions it to compete effectively in the expanding offline payments space. Verma's prior successes at Pine Labs provide valuable expertise for this expansion.
BHARATPE'S STRATEGIC EVOLUTION
BharatPe's evolution from a QR-focused startup to a full-stack fintech has positioned it as a significant player in India's payments landscape. Under CEO Negi's leadership, the company has expanded its offerings to include lending and insurance alongside its core payment services.
Verma's integration promises disciplined scaling of the POS business. His mandate includes driving merchant adoption while integrating POS capabilities with BharatPe's broader ecosystem. For merchants, this approach aims to deliver seamless payment solutions that enhance transaction capabilities.
BharatPe's offline payments acceleration under Verma positions the company to strengthen its presence in India's digital payments market, supporting merchant growth across diverse geographies and business segments.
